Topic

Emerging Technologies: Capturing the Benefits and Avoiding the Risk

Synopsis

New technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) promise enormous gains, but who captures them, and at what cost? Drawing on research and real-world cases, the speaker will examine the nature of these technologies and their unintended consequences. He will extend the analysis to labour market, learning, and the mounting social costs of data, computing and power consumption. He will conclude the talk by analyzing how the value of such technologies will likely be distributed.
